Ribbon Cuttings
Let’s celebrate together.
A ribbon cutting is one of the best days a business gets, and the Chamber would like to be there for yours. When we cut a ribbon in Overton County, we bring out Chamber leadership, board members, local elected officials, fellow members, and the local press, and we make sure the community knows there is something new worth their business. It costs our members nothing, it takes about thirty minutes, and it produces photography and coverage that most small businesses could never buy on their own.
It is also, in a quiet way, one of the more meaningful things we do. Every ribbon on this page represents someone who took a risk, put their name on a building, and bet on this community. Showing up for that is worth doing well.
Who is Eligible
Ribbon cuttings and related ceremonies are a benefit of Chamber membership and are available to any member business or organization in good standing. If you are not yet a member, we would love to have you join and then celebrate with you.
We are glad to host a ceremony for any of the following occasions.
- Grand opening of a new business or a new location
- Groundbreaking for new construction
- Expansion or renovation of an existing facility
- Relocation to a new address
- Rebranding, a change in ownership, or a significant new product or service line
- Milestone anniversary, typically five years and every five years thereafter
- Re-dedications and other significant business milestones

What the Chamber Provides
- Coordination and scheduling of the ceremony, including invitations to Chamber leadership, board members, and ambassadors
- Invitations to local elected officials as appropriate to the occasion
- Notification to local media
- The oversized ceremonial scissors and ribbon
- Photography of the ceremony, with photos provided to you at no cost for your own marketing use
- Promotion of your event on the Chamber's social media accounts before and after the ceremony
- A post in the Chamber newsletter and on the Chamber website
- A Chamber representative to say a few words and to introduce you
What the Business Provides
- A date and time that works for you, ideally selected at least three weeks out
- A location for the ceremony with enough room for a group photograph, whether that is a storefront entrance, a lobby, or a construction site
- A brief description of your business and the occasion for our promotional materials, along with your logo if you have one
- Refreshments if you would like to offer them, which is entirely optional
- Any tours, demonstrations, or open house activities you would like to include
How to Schedule
- Submit a request. Call the Chamber office at (931) 823-6421 or email admin@overtonco.com. We ask for at least three to four weeks of notice so that we can promote the event properly and give officials and members time to put it on their calendars.
- Confirm the details. A member of Chamber staff will follow up to confirm your date, time, location, and the specifics of what you want the ceremony to include.
- Let us promote it. We will handle media notification, social media promotion, and invitations to Chamber leadership and elected officials while you focus on getting ready.
- Celebrate. We arrive fifteen to twenty minutes early with the ribbon and scissors, the ceremony itself runs about ten minutes, and photographs and any tours follow.
Scheduling Tips
Weekday mid-morning and late-afternoon ceremonies tend to draw the best turnout, since those windows work well for both business owners and elected officials, and Tuesday through Thursday generally produces stronger attendance than Monday or Friday. We are happy to accommodate, but if you have flexibility, those windows are worth considering.
